HybridCenter Featured “client” in global college competition

We were quite pleased when the One Club, the leading non-profit organization in the world working for the promotion and advancement in excellence in advertising, got in touch with us, asking whether they could feature the HybridCenter as the “client” for their 2006 One Show College Advertising Competition.

For those of you who haven’t heard of this competition, it’s a 30-year-old tradition that draws over 500 entries from around the world from college advertising students.  The range of subjects that they have taken on in the past is all over the map.  Last year, the client was Domino Sugar, for instance, taking on the Splendas and Equals of the world.

This year, they wanted to take on a subject that had real resonance with students, and they thought hybrids were a great draw.  We worked with the One Club staff to create the competition brief that you can find here in .pdf form.  What really excites us about being a part of this competition is that the students are not just being asked to come up with a generic “hybrids are great” campaign, but come up with print, broadcast, online, and design ads that hit our core message about hybrid technology.  Here’s what the contestants are being asked to do:

  • Print [campaign only], Television [single only], Innovative Marketing [single or campaign]: Create an ad campaign that draws attention to the promise of hybrid vehicles and promotes the use of this technology in ways that illustrate the benefits to the consumer and environment. Use Hybridcenter.org as a client.
  • Design [single only]: Create a logo that captures the spirit of optimal hybrid technology use. The logo should be conceived as the universal stamp of approval for vehicles that maximize the benefit to the consumer and environment. The recycling symbol or Energy Star logo are examples of other types of universal seals of approval.
  • Interactive [single or campaign]: Make banner[s] or mini-site[s] that promote the use of hybrid technology and educates consumers about the different types of hybrid engines available. It should link to www.Hybridcenter.org.

Please be sure to pass the word around to any student or professor you think would be interested.  We’ll keep you posted on the competition and show you some of what I’m sure are going to be some very interesting, very creative ideas.
